The GP2 feature race at the Circuito Urbano Valencia came to a surprising end as title rivals Giorgio Pantano and Bruno Senna both ran out of fuel on the final lap.
Pantano had run away with the race from pole position and was poised to win when his car rolled to a halt on the final lap.
Bruno Senna had been running fifth and went passed his rival but his iSport car also slowed having run out of fuel. He made it across the line in ninth place – losing what would have been a valuable point for eighth plus pole position for tomorrow’s sprint race as Luca Filippi passed him.
Pantano’s late failure meant Racing Engineering missed out on a home win but fellow Spanish team Campos inherited the victory thanks to Vitaly Petrov. Pastor Maldonado was second ahead of Romain Grosjean.
Pantano was bitterly unfortunate to lose the victory so close to the end of the race. But he still leads Senna in the championship with 67 points to 58 with five rounds to go.
