  1. No idea who to put where. Going to have to wait for friday practice first before I can get any Idea who to place in what position

    1. Same here as still we haven’t seen the lap time of all the teams.Who knows who have how much sand in their car.

    2. You can put up your prediciton as a “banker lap” now and change it afterwards!

  2. Good to see the prediction championship back again, its going to be hard to predict the first race.

  3. I think I have a good idea where the teams are right now (roughly). The main question mark is over Mclaren. Not going to make any choices until friday practice methinks!

Prizes look great – especially the mug!

    1. Prizes look great – especially the mug!

Ancient Chinese proverb, “does tea taste faster in F1fanatic mug?”

  4. OMG!!! It’s already time?!?!
This got me by surprise. Hell yeah!!
Rob Ijbema’s paintings are fantastic. If I won the Championship, I’d ask for a painting showing Ayrton Senna in a 1992 Marlboro McLaren chased by Alex Zanardi in his 1998 Target Chip Ganassi Reynard.

    1. Last year I won one of his paintings, very cool. I selected one of Vettel!

  5. And so it begins.

  6. Thanks for running this again Keith! You just can’t have this much fun for free anywhere else on the internet : )

By the by – what’s the tie-break procedure if more than one person has the highest points total at the end of the year? Maybe a Murray Walker impersonation duel?

    1. I’m fairly sure the predicted pole lap times might separate that unlikely event.

      1. Actually i think the person who gets the exact lap time of the pole position should get a small present too. Just think about it. Is very hard to actually predict the exact lap time. Most times probably no one gets it right.
Getting that right should at least require some reward instead of just being something to determine the winner in case of tie.

        1. seconded. The odds of getting it bang on are at least a thousand to one (if the range of times are about a second). If not a prize at least a mention in the round-up?

  7. It’s so tempting just to start predicting away! I have to tell myself to wait till after friday practice or ill do something rash like predict hamilton on pole

  8. I’m just going to say I’ll need lots of rain on Sunday! ;)

    OK. Easy peasy, I reckon.
That’s Perez on pole. Fernando in first, Sutil in second and thomeone elthe in third . . .

  10. Keith!? you’ve just butchered my surnmame almost as badly as david croft. :D Its newnham not nenham. Thanks for the competition though, you can’t argue with free stuff.

    1. And i’ve just butchered the word surname. egg. on. face.

    2. Very sorry, thought I’d put Newnham. Fixed it now!

      1. no problemo.

  11. Wow, I wasn’t ready for this. It seems so early, really caught me off guard! Just 4 more days until we see these cars on tv for the first time…. So anxious!

    1. LOL, I felt the same right before it turned to the joyous feeling of the season really getting started!

You really pulled a great one with the prizes this year Keith. I hope I do a bit better this year and win something.

  12. I think that it will be more fun and try to guess now. WEB ALO BUT ROS HEI but I am pretty sure I’m wrong ;) Just hope that my Pole time predict will be close to the real one. My dream result would be ALO WEB ROS MAS HEI BUT… Like all of you I just can’t wait to see the P1! And the timezone isn’t a problem for me right now. Anybody plans to watch all the practices, quali, race live (just like me)? ;))

  13. Excellent – thanks so much for running this feature Keith – it is brilliant to have such an age old concept enhanced with real F1 themed prizes. Your work is very much appreciated and the site is always my first port of call when I log in to the PC!

Onto the predictions! It is always very tough to predict the first race so I based mine on how we left off last year to an extent. In terms of performance I think Mercedes and McLaren may have swapped places with regard to last year, so I expect Schumacher or Rosberg on the podium.

BUT – even if I can guess the performance accurately (which I sorely doubt!) – Melbourne always throws up mayhem. Thus, my prediction – the unpredictable!

  14. Also… I made my predictions, submitted and then wrote a comment, scrolled back up and pressed submit again…

I received two confirmation e-mails… surely this means I could’ve submitted 2 different predictions… just thought i’d make you aware!

    1. Only received one prediction from your username, so I doubt you could exploit it this way. Will look into it.

      1. Just to clarify – I didn’t even contemplate submitting two – just wanted to make sure there wasn’t a bug that hadn’t been picked up on. Apologies!

        1. You didn’t wait for Practice!!!!

Although just a hunch if you submit it twice will it update the entry to the latest one submitted?

          1. I think that would be a good idea. Sometimes I’ve predicted too early, thinking I wouldn’t have another chance to get online before the race, but then it has turned out I could have made a more accurate prediction after FP2.

          2. I was wondering about that Keith. In the testing we were able to change it, that was pretty good.

        2. No that’s OK, always good to know if there’s a problem. As Ian pointed out I’d just forgotten this improvement had been made!

    2. Because of the requirement to login you can now enter your predictions early and come back and change the prediction right up to the deadline.

So each time you submit a prediction you will receive a confirmation email for the updated prediction.

      Ian

      1. Good point – I forgot to reflect that in the rules, have updated them now.

      2. Great, thanks Ian. Lovely work there!

  15. wow, thanks for organising these goodies Keith! i’m sure everyone is getting excitied now!

  16. Thanks for organising this again, Keith! My aim is to finish inside the top 100 as I was just outside last year.

  17. Predictions wanted? THE SEASON’S FINALLY HERE!

Keith aren’t you doing the season prediction article first that you’ve run for the past 2 years?

  20. So, i someone wins living overseas, do we get flown there to? :)

      21st March 2011, 7:23

No, flights and accommodation are at our expense, in 12. of the conditions of entry

  21. Here we go!!

  22. Looking forward to the Prediction Championship almost as much as the real thing :D

    I expect i’ll do terrible.

  23. I can’t seem to view other peoples’ predictions. Can anyone help me out here? I remember I used to be able to. At least last season.

    1. Suppose that’s because you can still change your predictions if you want, so they’re going to be shown only after being definitive I suppose.

      1. so I’m not the only one with this problem?

  24. Right… I’m DEFINITELY going to remember to do this every race this year. :D

  25. I was in two minds about joining in this year, so many times last year I was shouting at the telly because some clown not in my prediction made it into the top five and messed up my score ! But what the hey, the lure of trying to beat Scunnyman et al, and the two tickets to Silverstone dangling in my face are just to hard to ignore. As long as I remember to post a prediction every round this year, I reckon I’m in with a shot.

    1. LOL, best thing is, now you can enter it, and then change your mind to change after seeing FP!

  26. Can I just clarify you can change your mind as often as you like but what ever you have before FP 3 goes in???? sorry if I am repeating anyone elses question. I think predictions add to the experience its like betting on the winner without spending any money!!!!

  27. Well this sounds fun I have predicted already as my predictions seem pretty solid but im sure if it rains that the pole time will be miles off but i might still change them.

  28. Fantastic artwork, I’ve featured it on my blog: http://www.pjtierney.net/2011/03/automotive-art-by-rob-ijbema.html

    The Spa 2000 one’s amazing!

  29. is it possible to sell your tickets to somebody else if u win and cannot go ?

  30. This is my random prediction:

    Pole – Sebastian Vettel
    Time – 01:25.523
    First – Fernando Alonso
    Second – Sebastian Vettel
    Third – Nico Rosberg
    Fourth – Lewis Hamilton
    Fifth – Nick Heidfeld

I can’t wait until Sunday to see how epically I failed :)

  31. My goal this year is to beat my rank last year. Not very optimistic in winning but anything can happen. Kudos to Keith and to all organizers!!! Great upgrades. :)

  32. just to boring Vettel on pole in 01:24.941 and to win
