Several tributes to Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli were on display on cars and drivers’ helmets in India today.

Drivers and teams with connections to the drivers, who lost their lives in separate crashes over the last two weekends, carried their logos and car numbers.

Jenson Button and Mark Webber were among those sporting Dan Wheldon’s sticker on their helmets.

Both McLaren drivers also wore black armbands with Wheldon’s name on it.

The Ferrari duo wore the stickers of both drivers. Jarno Trulli sports a special helmet design in honour of his late countryman Simoncelli, as did Rubens Barrichello.

Both HRTs also have black ribbons next to the cockpit as a mark of respect.

  1. R.I.P Dan and Simon.

The Ferrari drivers have the right spirit, but Dan Wheldon’s name is misspelt on their helmets.

    1. *R.I.P. Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli

    2. Yes, very disappointing that they have a spelling error, hopefully it’s rectified for tomorrow.

    3. Great observation. Its a shame they mispelt it.

  2. I expected no less but nevertheless, good to see.

  3. I’ve got a lump in my throat AGAIN.

    1. Me too. And it makes it all the more perplexing, could someone please enlighten me as to why LH has a tribute to Bob Marley on his helmet ?

  4. Well, believe it or not, Bob Marley sadly passed away too !

    1. Yea, I know, on May 11 1981, in Miami, I have been to his tomb in Jamaica, but what relevance does that have to this weekend ??

      1. @phil-t – I think it’s a touching romantic gesture – apparently it says One Love on there too. Ah, youth!

        1. I know but, on any other weekend but the first meeting since losing Dan and Marco, I would`nt have a problem with it, I just find it a bit strange, when everyone else is honouring the memory of two fellow racers that were only lost in the last fortnight, and LH chooses to this weekend to honour Bob ?

          1. Its probably his stupid management company trying to make him ‘cool’

          2. @phil-t – there’s been some criticism of people jumping on the Wheldon grief bandwagon even if they didn’t really know him. I don’t think Lewis and Dan Wheldon were of the same racing generation, so in a way it would be a bit bandwagonesque of him. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s necessarily honouring Bob per se!

        2. Its a tribute for Marley dying 30 years ago. The Marley foundation (or family trust, or what its called) asked Hamilton to use it for India months ago, so it was long planned to do so (Mclaren tweeted about that yesterday).

  5. Proud. Proud. Proud. DW1978FOREVER

  6. Race in Peace, Dan, Marco, Henry, Ayrton, Roland, and all the others. My heart goes out to Sebastian and Oliver, (thats the worst part of it all to me) and everyone else affected by this emotional rollercoaster, motorsport.

  7. While I appreciate the effort, I think more could be done. These were both tragic events and touch us all. Tiny little stickers on helmets while showing recognition, don’t really do justice. Sponsors and companies like the FIA should be replacing their logo’s this weekend with tribute’s to these great sportsman.
    R.I.P Dan and Marco

  8. Toro Rosso also had 58 displayed on the side of their cars, on their side-pod boards

    1. I expected something similar by Ferrari.
Also, I can see why some drivers decided to wear stickers of only one of the two drivers, but I think both should have been worn.

  9. Last week at the Gold Coast they re-named the trophy in honour of Dan Wheldon. Would be nice if a similar gesture to Super Sic was made at this venue. Otherwise, nice to see the drivers paying their respects.

    1. I saw a video of that thropy being handed to Bourdais, really got to him.

  11. Like gesture from the teams, hope this weekend we have a good race which will help us to get out of the last two weekend.
