Get a glimpse behind the scenes of the United States Grand Prix with @AnthonyFrench’s round-up of the best Tweets from the race weekend.

Thursday

F1’s second year in Austin began with the news Heikki Kovalainen would substitute for Kimi Raikkonen at Lotus, while McLaren gave Sergio Perez his marching orders for 2014 as they planned to bring in Kevin Magnussen.

Friday

First practice was delayed and shortened after fog delayed the arrival of the medical helicopter. Fernando Alonso headed the shortened session but Ferrari’s advantage proved short-lived as Red Bull regained the initiative in second practice with a dominant display of qualifying and long-run pace.

Saturday

The contest for pole position was a close-run thing but Vettel edged team mate Webber for his eighth of the season. Valtteri Bottas stole impressed by qualifying his Williams in ninth position while team mate Maldonado pointed an accusing finger at his team after being knocked out in Q1.

Sunday

The 2013 United States Grand Prix was dominated by Sebastian Vettel, setting a new record with his eighth consecutive victory.

Grosjean and Webber fought hard for second but much of the racing action took place in the minor points positions. Kovalainen dropped out the top ten on his F1 return, while Bottas celebrated his first ever F1 points in eighth.

  1. I thought that the marshals would get a few more zingers. Quite frankly it was good that nothing major (as in more debris to clear) happened because they seemed to be pretty terrible at what they are doing.

  2. Wot no @charlie_whiting?

  3. what is going on in the first Dickie Sanford picture with all the guys in red standing around and reaching into the Williams car?

    1. That is the medical team practicing a driver extraction from the car

  4. Fantastic collection of tweets @anthonyfrench

I was wondering if for future posts if it was possible to have a feature of tweets surrounding a sub plot of the weekend? At the moment you have it split out by Fri, Sat & Sun tweets, however, it would be great if there was a section about something topical, for instance this weekend, Heikki’s comeback.

    1. Not a bad idea really @dragoll, but more in addition to the general feel of things with the “weekend in Tweets” article IMO
