Rare rain in Bahrain will clear before action starts

2016 Bahrain Grand Prix weather

Formula One has never needed to use wet weather tyres at any of the 11 previous Bahrain Grand Prix. But if the cars were running today they would probably need them.

On average Bahrain sees less than ten days of rain per year. But it is forecast to experience one of its infrequent cloudbursts on the last day before track action begins tomorrow.

After that the weather will quickly revert to type. Friday is expected to be overcast which will take the edge off the typical high temperatures, seeing a peak of around 22C. More significantly, the cloudy conditions should stop the track temperatures from reaching their usual peaks.

Saturday and Sunday will be sunny and race day could see temperatures pass the 25C mark. This will still be around 6C shy of last year’s highest temperature when the race was held later in the year.

As has been the case since 2014 the race, qualifying and final practice will begin after sundown. Teams will therefore face the additional challenge of falling track temperatures.

For more updates on the track conditions during each session keep an eye on F1 Fanatic Live and the F1 Fanatic Twitter account.

  1. Guess it will be somewhat less dusty then. But still a very “green” track of course. And the temperatures might be a tad lower, which could possible influence how everyone heats their tyres a bit.

  2. Oh for God’s sake. RAIN!!!!!

    1. LOL It would make for an interesting race in the desert.

      1. Why does it never rain on Sunday! :( *hides in a corner and cries like a baby*

Anyway I won’t watch quali, you only live once and I can spend that hour more productively, or at least waste it in a funnier way.

    1. Quali is not an hour you have to minus the last 4 minutes when nothing happens so 56 minutes saved by not watching it.
