In the round-up: Carlos Sainz Jnr says Valterri Bottas cost him his best chance to get past Lance Stroll in the German Grand Prix.
What they say
Sainz was running behind Stroll and Bottas until the Mercedes driver crashed out:I was surprised to see that a Mercedes couldn’t clear Stroll as quickly as he did.
So I missed the chance of passing Stroll with the peak of the new tyre, of the very used tyre that I actually had, because I had no new softs for the end of the race. Kvyat and Stroll had new softs because of not going into Q2.
So I was a bit with a loose rear end but that was my only chance to pass Stroll and Bottas struggled a bit and ended up spinning which in the end gave me a position.

Should Max Verstappen steer clear of Ferrari?
Verstappen to Ferrari would be the most stupid decision Verstappen or Red Bull can make right now!
Why would he leave Red Bull right now? They are in the upward trajectory already surpassing Ferrari in overall performance (chassis plus engine) and have a better team overall.

On this day in F1
- 20 years ago today Mika Salo handed victory to title-contending team mate Eddie Irvine in the German Grand Prix. Irvine failed to win the championship, and Salo never took an F1 win.

Inconsistent stewarding. VET again made a driver hit the brakes to avoid a collision. Should’ve taken a penalty.

You can almost see vettel’s hand shaking in that video. He is so nervous that he literally forces himself into a mistake.

Erm …
That’s called locking up the rears. I fail to see any kind of shaking here that isn’t a direct consequence of correcting his error.

An unenforced error that he made.

Yes, and? To my knowledge, nobody has ever claimed the opposite. I just commented to point out that your story about shaky hands is but a figment of your imagination.

I agree with CotD. At Ferrari, Max might get an engine with more power and reliability, but he gives up a top-notch strategy team, a solid pit crew, and good race/performance engineers. All that for the allure of red? Probably not worth it, not at his age.
I wouldn’t even advise Hamilton to head that way, but seeing as he’s got little left to prove (and a whole stash of trophies and titles), if he’s truly interested in joining Ferrari in its current state, he could give it a shot.

Red bull haven’t been contenders for years. Both victories were because the competition screwed up. Every year at the start RB is miles behind the top 2 and by development they make up some time, but halfway it’s already impossible to catch mercedes. Every year it’s the same:”we finished great, so next year we will really fight for the title.” And then they don’t.

True, but that was always with a Renault engine

Max in this year Ferrari would be fighting for the championship. Maybe not win it, but he would be close to Lewis.
With Red Bull he is fighting Bottas for second.

It’s funny to think that had Bottas been the lead driver at Mercedes (with say, Wehrlein as the 2nd driver) Vettel would have probably won both the 2017 & 2018 championships and Verstappen might have been leading this one.
We’d be talking about how the absolute dominance of Mercedes ended after 2016 and how F1 is now one of the most exciting sports in the world…. Same cars, same engines and teams, different drivers and totally bonkers championship fights.

Colton would definately be a “get” for McLaren, and SPM is a fine operation to run with for 2020 and beyond.
Run Colton for the full year and add ALO for INDY and some of the classic road courses. And Long Beach.

It was the other way around, actually. He was mighty while Williams were at the top of the food chain, but started appearing increasingly mediocre from 1998 onward, when Williams became a mere midfield contender, and his subsequent stints with BAR, Renault and Sauber only made matters worse.
