   Aston Martin and Sauber/Alfa end up tied. Quite interesting how different their seasons have been, with the former scoring mostly in the latter and the latter in the first half of the season. Unfortunate that Vettel couldn’t get past Ricciardo there at the end of the race, that would have put them ahead.

         Absolutely, the level of competition is quite poor. F1 is in a tough spot on this; on the one hand they want to keep their heritage of being an ‘open’ championship, but the rules are so extremely restrictive that pretty much all the performance is found in optimizing – and that iterative design hugely favours teams with a lot of money. Back in the day a team might have a particularly clever idea and benefit from that for a while, but this is now almost impossible.

         As much as some of the purists might hate it, I suspect the next few years might prove that the FIA/ACO/IMSA bet on LMH/LMDh and all the performance balancing that goes with that is going to pay off quite well. Endurance racing will never be as popular as 90 minute Grand Prix events, but it doesn’t need to be to attract interest from participants; especially since it’s much, much cheaper too.

   Both Ferrari drivers going up a spot that race, never really clocked that for Sainz today.
   One helped by Max, the other by Lewis(‘ gearbox).

      Wow, VER gave up his place for LEC just so that he would finish ahead of PER?!?! Get real man, LEC finished P2 meritously, same for Ferrari!

         There was a very minor altercation in the previous race in Brazil, it was barely picked up by anyone to be honest, something about swapping positions. I can see how that was easily missed.
         There could have also been a return of favour of 2021 Abu Dhabi I suppose, but that would have meant Max going out of his way in fairness.

            I don’t get it, that was 2 points that perez didn’t get and he lost 3 compared to leclerc here, that’s not enough.

            Ahh, maybe you mean verstappen should’ve slowed down leclerc to allow perez a chance, that makes sense.

   So AR beats AM over a countback advantage. For now, I don’t recall their respective highest finishing positions.

      Bottas was P5 in Imola and I think P6 once or twice elsewhere. Certainly more often than Vettel being this high up.

      Alfa Romeo beats Aston Martin thanks to their 5th place at Imola with Bottas. Both Aston Martin drivers’ best was 6th (Azerbaijan and Japan for Vettel, Singapore for Stroll).

      Ricciardo beats Vettel thanks to his 5th place in Singapore.

   Hamilton probably cost Pérez WCC P2. I was thinking Hamilton should have just let him by to get the flag ahead of Sainz. Didn’t matter though.

      Hamilton could afford to be P5 and still finish the season ahead of Sainz.
      But the car had other plans.

   So even after all the engine failures, strategy mistakes, pitstops gone wrong, crashes and Ferrari finding new inventive ways to lose Perez still can’t beat Leclerc in a quicker car for most of the season.

   If Max wasn’t as good as he is I’d be looking for a Perez replacement if the cars converge in a tight title fight. Not good enough.

      Team P4-P10 would have just pipped Mercedes to third if they joined as one colossal team.

      Which it not unsurprising as P4-P10 in a race is the same as P1+P2, so those at the front regularly will be way out from those in the lower points.

   Why did the talk about perez and verstappen suddenly stopped? I wanted to know if the points mattered.

      Verstappen being disrespectful last weekend made a difference to the number of points Perez had, but not the position Perez now is in the standings. That may be why it isn’t being mentioned.

      Verstappen last weekend was in 7th and refused to give that position back to Perez, which will have only given Perez 2 more points.

      The race we’ve just had, even if Perez has been given 2 extra points in Brazil, Leclerc got 3 more than him today, which will have got him 1 point ahead. So in the end – all the fuss about verstappen basically made no difference.

      Everybody knows since it happened it wasn’t about 2 points. It was about Max following team orders for somebody else’s interest, probably for the first time ever, and failing completely.

      Furthermore, that subject is last week news, why should people still talk about that is beyond me.

         You must be new to this (I’ve seen you around a lot on here, I mean new to these debates), because I and I’m sure many others would’ve definitely complained again now about verstappen’s insubordination about that team order if it had come out that it was what made the difference to the 2nd place in the championship, but luckily it didn’t, so verstappen is off the hook, except that I haven’t seen him help a team mate, ever. Want to see what happens if he ends up in front while being slower sometimes, but very rare with him.

   I am sure everyone is happy after that terrible domination by Mercedes. Now we have Red Bull that scored more points than 3nd and 4/5th combined. Or 2rd and 4/5th combined.

      But they failed to have their 2nd driver get 2nd in the championship, which didn’t happen to merc in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020 I believe (clearly the most dominant years) and I guess happened in the years inbetween.

   I openly admit to a huge McLaren bias, which has been with me since Bruce was in his own Yellow Car (but I do remember also loving the Gold Leaf Lotus during the Sixties).

   It galls me beyond words that Lando Norris is the only reason McLaren finished 5th in the Championship Table just behind Alpine was solely due to Daniel failing his “Exalted Status” as a real F1 superstar – there’s only one reason he was so successful at Red Bull, and that was because the car at that time was superb, even a rookie could have performed well above his real talent level in it.

   Essentially he was definitely driver No. 2 to a newbie kid without much experience (relatively speaking) and who gave McLaren four times more points that the Star in the garage managed in the same Car !

   Just imagine what position McLaren would have been in had Daniel scored according to his expected level. It means that at the front end of the season some of the points scored by other drivers from SF-RB & Merc would have yielded even more than just double the points haul of Lando’s and at the same time as taking away points from the guys who scored higher.

   I sincerely hope that the team will have a driver capable of points as high as LN if not more after his rookie year – 2023 ….. Watch this space
