The World Endurance Championship’s Hypercar class will grow to 13 cars for round three of the season, the Six Hours of Spa.

The two extra entries are a further Porsche run by the Jota team and a second entry from Cadillac.

The same 11 hypercars which contested the season-opening 1000 Miles of Sebring earlier this month have been entered into the second round – the Six Hours of Portimao – on 16th April.

While awaiting the delivery of their Porsche 963, Jota Sport competed in and won the LMP2 class at Sebring as a non-points scoring entry with David Beckmann, Will Stevens and Yifei Ye. They will do the same for round two at Algarve, with Formula E champion Antonio Felix da Costa replacing Beckmann in the car as he prepares for Spa-Francorchamps where he, Stevens and Ye will join the Hypercar class.

It had already been anticipated that Spa would be Jota’s top class debut due to the delivery timing, whereas the other addition to the Hypercar entry list is a surprise.

The Chip Ganassi Racing-run works Cadillac team had gone into this year with the intention of racing two of its Cadillac V-Series.R cars in IMSA and then bringing one of those vehicles to race full-time in WEC while the other would join the field for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.

However that second entry, piloted by Sebastien Bourdais, Scott Dixon and Renger van der Zande in IMSA, will now also contest the Six Hours of Spa in preparation for the trip to Le Mans.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to bring another Cadillac to the race at Spa,” said Laura Wontrop Klauser, sports car racing programme manager for Cadillac’s parent company General Motors.

“Any opportunity that we have to prepare for Le Mans within the WEC rules and regulations is great. This will get the team even more ready to tackle that race as well as an opportunity to bring more Cadillac participation to the European race.”

The Spa round takes place on 29th April, which means Dixon will be unavailable as he will be racing for Ganassi at Barber Motorsports Park in IndyCar that weekend. It has not been announced who will take his place alongside Bourdais and van der Zande in the Cadillac.
