There are 21 races on the provisional F1 calendar, meaning the BBC can broadcast ten of them live.
Which ones should the BBC try to pick? And how will the choosing process between it and Sky go?
The BBC get the first choice and can pick three races which they will show live. Then Sky pick three races they will have exclusively live. After that, each picks one race in turn until all have been allocated.
Last year the BBC picked Malaysia, Spain, Canada, Britain, Belgium, Italy, Japan, Russia and Abu Dhabi. The 2015 F1 calendar is as follows:
Australia
Malaysia
China
Bahrain
South Korea
Spain
Monaco
Canada
Austria
Britain
Germany
Hungary
Belgium
Italy
Singapore
Japan
Russia
USA
Mexico
Brazil
Abu DhabiSouth Korea is widely expected not to be on the final calendar.

3rd January 2015, 13:00 at 1:00 pm #289966JamesParticipantIn order of preference, the BBC should choose:
Britain (obvious reason)
Abu Dhabi (final race, title decider etc…)
Belgium (always a popular one)
Brazil (decent race + possible title decider)
Canada (one of the best races + good viewing time)
Mexico (new race + possible title decider)
USA (similar to Canada)
Malaysia (usually a decent race)
Australia/Bahrain/Spain/Monaco/Germany/Italy/Singapore/Japan
China/South Korea/Austria/Hungary/RussiaHowever, I believe that it’s a maximum of 2 consecutive ‘Sky’ races, and the BBC won’t show all final 4 races, so I imagine that the BBC will choose something like:
Malaysia
Bahrain
Spain
Canada
Britain
Belgium
Singapore
Japan
USA
Abu Dhabi3rd January 2015, 13:35 at 1:35 pm #289976Craig WoollardParticipantIdeally, all of them. Sky’s build up is pretty abysmal. The commentary is the only decent point but even then both Croft and Brundle seem to lose the plot on occasions.
I would guess that Malaysia, Bahrain, Spain, Canada, Britain, Hungary, Belgium, Singapore, Mexico and Abu Dhabi will be on the Beeb.

Australia, Singapore, USA – Sky
Mexico – BBC
Canada – Sky

Italy – Sky
Brazil – BBC
etc.I tried to think with the head of a marketing man, so I chose GPs which may have the most ad value besides being the most popular around England and the world.
I think the most important choices are the first ones, so I didn’t list them all.

Abu DhabiWould be my selection. Korea may or may not happen, so there’d only be a one-race gap between BBC live broadcasts. Monaco, as prestigious as it is, tends to be a bit processional, so we could probably get highlights just as good as a live race. Tried to keep even-ish gaps with the rest. Belgium/Italy back to back, both have the history, and are typically good races. Return to Mexico would be good to have live, and the Abu Dhabi season closer is pretty much a given.
